Raleigh is now in the final phase in implementing a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) which officially took effect last September.  Over the course of the past few weeks, the City of Raleigh has been accepting comments from local residents regarding their feedback on the City’s Zoning District Remapping Project. By it’s conclusion in late 2015, this project will have rezoned about 30% of the city.
Beginning on October 21, the Planning Commission will begin its review of this draft map, which will likely take several months. Included in the UDO review process is discussion involving specific development improvements.  In addition, city officials are questioning whether or not the required and appropriate transitions between residential and nonresidential areas, and if large scale development can be situated adjacent to an alley. Overall, the city of Raleigh wishes to balance sustainable growth with neighborhood preservation.
